Senior Automation and Controls Systems Engineer

The Senior Automation and Controls Systems Engineer is responsible for assisting the Sr. Manager, Electrical / Instrumentation and Controls in the execution of projects. The Senior Automation and Controls Systems Engineer must work closely with engineering, drafting, purchasing and construction members of the project team including external suppliers of products and services where applicable. This position is also involved with coordinating material takeoffs, material pricing, drawing reviews, scheduling, and participating in the interface with customers.

STRUCTURE:

The Senior Automation and Controls Systems Engineer reports directly to the Sr. Manager, Electrical / Instrumentation and Controls on their specific projects.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

  • Works with the design team to ensure engineering design meets the requirements of the project specifications
  • Coordinates resolution of design issues that arise during execution of the project
  • Coordinates Subcontractors and Vendors under the direction of the Project Manager
  • Assists in the development of short and long-term strategies and schedules for current projects
  • Tracks, monitors and communicates progress and issues to the Project Manager
  • Operates within ISO Quality system and company safety policy in all phases of assignments
  • Safety, Cost, Schedule and Quality related to work executed
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related fields (computer science, electrical engineering, programming, etc.) (required)2-5 years of experience in automation programming.
  • Minimum of 2-5 years prior experience working on industrial projects. Some related field construction experience preferred.
  • Familiar with electrical, electronic, mechanical, software and industrial automation (Allen Bradley, GE, Siemens)
  • Develop and program Allen Bradley and GE PLC systems for various applications, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
  • Knowledge of basic process control and analog devices.
  • Able to coordinate and lead I&E field personnel.
  • Collaborate with customers to integrate logic controllers and other automation technologies into existing systems.
  • Conduct troubleshooting and maintenance of automated equipment, including PLC, HMI, and various computer equipment.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and technical documents to facilitate accurate implementation of automation projects.
  • Provide Automation knowledge to support the assembly and installation of control cabinets used in automated processes.
  • A self-starter with experience working in a team environment
  • Proficient using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project scheduling software
  • Assist in the training of staff on the design and operation of automated systems
